Do you think Kapa haka is good for us?
I think that Kapa Haka is good for us because I think that when you do Kapa Haka it gives you an opportunity to experience success, gain confidence through performance, step up as a leader and role model.
The Haka was traditionally performed by men before going to war.
The aggressive facial expressions were meant to scare the opponents.
Today, Haka are still used during Maori ceremonies and celebrations to honour quests and show the importance of the incident. Haka are also used to challenge opponents on the sports field. The New Zealand rugby team, the All Blacks, perform the Haka before each match in a stunning show of strength and physical skill.
The very first New Zealand representative rugby team, known as The Natives, performed a Haka during a tour of Britain and Australia in 1888-89. Originally, the Haka was only performed by the All Blacks when they played overseas.
Kapa Haka is performed by cultural groups on marae, at schools, and during special events and festivals.
The Maori word ‘kapa’ means to stand in a row or rank, and haka is a dance. The term ‘Kapa Haka’ means a group or groups standing in rows to perform traditional Maori dances.
Hi Holly.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great piece of writing. I can tell you have done some research about kapa haka to back up your point of view. I really like how you included some facts about the history of the haka.
Next time remember to include a conclusion as the end of your writing. This conclusion should sum up your point of view, such as: 'In conclusion I believe...'
I think you also could have included a couple more labels to this piece of writing such as: kapa haka, research, online learning and lockdown.
